Updated WTC Table 2025-27: Pakistan Slips to Last After Penalty
The ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 has already produced plenty of movement in the standings, with Pakistan facing a difficult situation after a penalty for a slow over-rate. The points deduction has added further pressure to Pakistan’s campaign as teams compete for the top two places and a spot in the WTC Final.
Pakistan’s WTC Points Penalty Explained
Pakistan were penalised eight points after being found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate during the first Test against Bangladesh in Mirpur. The ICC confirmed that Pakistan were eight overs short of the required rate after time allowances were taken into account. The team was also fined 40% of its match fee.
The penalty had a direct impact on Pakistan’s World Test Championship points percentage. Since the WTC standings are determined by points percentage rather than simply the total number of points won, disciplinary deductions can have a significant effect on a team's position.

Updated WTC Table 2025-27
Pakistan’s position became increasingly difficult following their series results against Bangladesh. The ICC reported that Bangladesh’s victory over Pakistan moved them up the standings, while Pakistan slipped to seventh with a points percentage of 33.33 at that stage.
The latest ICC state-of-play update has Pakistan at the bottom of the nine-team table after nine Tests, with two wins and a points percentage of 14.81. West Indies are eighth on 20.83%, while Sri Lanka sit seventh on 33.33%.
Why the WTC Table Matters
The World Test Championship rewards consistent performances throughout the two-year cycle. Teams collect points for Test victories, while draws provide fewer points. However, penalties for slow over-rates can reduce a team's overall percentage and make qualification more difficult.
Only the top two teams at the end of the 2025-27 cycle will qualify for the WTC Final. The final is scheduled to be played in 2027, making every Test and every available championship point important.
Pakistan’s Road Ahead
Pakistan still have matches remaining in the WTC 2025-27 cycle. According to the ICC, their remaining series include two Tests against Sri Lanka and two against New Zealand.
With four Tests still available, Pakistan will need consistent results to improve their points percentage. Avoiding further penalties will also be important as the team attempts to recover from a challenging start.
The updated WTC table highlights how quickly the standings can change during a long championship cycle. For Pakistan, the focus now shifts towards collecting points in their remaining Tests and rebuilding their position before the race for the 2027 WTC Final reaches its decisive stage.
